Real Solutions

Milestone Rough Patches

The tough times befall us all.  The body processes involved in slowing and stopping fertility effect each and every system in unique and changing ways.   Check our Wellness page for system-specific solutions and proactive measures for every issue.

Nutrition and Fitness

It is astounding how many problems can be countered at least in part by increasing the quality of the food and nutrients you take in, and getting regular and varied (walking, jumping, toning, heart-pumping) exercise.

Because each body is different, err on the side of caution and ask for expert help before trying anything new.

Practical Solutions

Check the Shop section of our home page for some cool, practical ideas and solutions for the little things that can make a big difference in the Milestone day to day.

Issues with hot flashes – keep a nice Evian facial mist, some sparkling water to drink, your favorite perfume in a purse-sized spray and gentle facial wipes around for every sweaty issue you encounter.  Sweat with panache, you’re glowing.

Sleep: Keep yourself cool and hydrated when you sleep – sleep is so critical for system recovery and regeneration.  Fan, silk pillowcase, melatonin, humidifier… yes, please.

Skin: Moisturize differently for your Milestone skin.  Stay hydrated and use sunscreen.

Medical Intervention

There are times and women for whom hormone therapy is a great and life-changing solution (we make note of North American Menopause Society’s recommendations in our Secret Garden section on the wellness page).

Check with your favorite, knowledgeable Gynecologist on when, whether and what version of this might make sense.

More Help

Support systems are critical when you hit low points.   We would never criticize a friend for asking for help, we would expect it.  Seek help in friends, loved ones, counselors, trusted advisors, therapists and physicians any time your coping skills bottom-out.  We all feel that way sometimes, believe it and believe you are not alone and will get through this too.

Fearless Life Lifestyle

Bucket List or Bucket Life?

Build a better bucket.   It’s your life.  Live it.  Expand it.  Demand more of it.  Revel in it.

Considering Change

Milestones are notorious for stirring up notions of reinvention.  Like anything that creates pause in our life – a milestone, a loss, a major change, it is sort of a perfect opportunity for that uniquely human specialization: reflection.

Whether or not change is on your radar, The Milestone body is asking (forcing) you to proceed with care and pay attention to the details.

Whether change is small or grand, now or later, any time we acknowledge the brevity of life and our place in time, we can give that realization a nod by checking the old life compass.

Check your Path and your Purpose

Why not?

Give yourself a shout-out first for who you are, how you got where you are and what you have overcome and accomplished.

As you sit on that park bench or take a walk alone, consider your strengths, your dreams, and your realities.

Your path is yours alone, make sure it’s the one you want.

Possibilities

  • Say no less…
  • or more.
  • Take a chance
  • Invest in yourself
  • Do something good
  • Instigate

Be Fearless

Milestone women have encountered and conquered fear countless times.  A fearless life and a reckless life are not the same thing, but our constructs of allowable behavior might be forgiven a slight shift as we step back into a role that is less parental in Milestone years.

Fill your heart and life full of the experiences, the people, the possibilities, the accomplishments, the wonder that give you hope, make you laugh, make you think and feel.  Let your days and your years and your life make you grateful and proud.

Lift

Lift others; lift yourself.

The leader who believes in the people she hires so much that she extolls their prowess and abilities above her own as the path to company success is a powerful leader.  She is a mentor.

Allow others the chance to rise.  Give them the space, and perhaps a step up.  It’s not about humbling or denying ourselves (although that can happen too).  It’s about believing in others so much that they can’t help but believe in themselves.

…And then watch them fly.

To Lift is a Gift

It’s true.  We’ve all experienced it.  It takes the humility acquired by confidence.   It takes faith in the core, potential, and character content of another person.  Sometimes it even means taking a chance.

Experiencing the Milestone can be a huge challenge, sometimes for months or even years.  Distraction from the all-consuming potential of physical distress can be a relief.

Looking for ways to encourage other people, helping, giving guidance, praise and leadership can sometimes be not only a relief from our own internal struggles but a path toward personal progress as well.

Lift Fiercely, Lift gently.

We can all recall a time when the guidance of another woman who had walked in our shoes made all the difference in our ability to plow forward.  Now is our opportunity to do that for others.

Lift. Rise
